The best premium cards should offer great travel and lifestyle benefits. The welcome offer on a premium credit card is usually quite generous, which will help kickstart future award redemptions. Given that welcome bonuses are a one-time bonus and can be lucrative, they are a factor in evaluating cards.

Most premium credit cards have rather large annual fees, so we take these into account as well. We like to prioritize cards with flexible redemption options and access to transfer partners, as these cards usually offer multiple great options to get great value out of your points.

For most travelers, a general travel credit card like the Amex Platinum card, Capital One Venture X card, or Chase Sapphire Reserve card may be the best option. However, those who regularly fly a specific airline for work may prefer a premium airline credit card, like those offered by Delta. These cards can help you achieve airline status faster and will give you access to domestic airline lounges when flying on your preferred airline.

This is especially important when you consider that Priority Pass has limited options when traveling domestically. We showed you the best premium travel credit cards on the market. In other words, the majors benefits of the Premium Rewards Elite card over the Premium Rewards card are the airline incidental and lifestyle credits, so if those credits aren't worth much to you, you might consider the Premium Rewards Card instead.

You can redeem points for travel, cash back, a statement credit, experiences or gift cards. The real benefit of the Premium Rewards Elite Card is for Preferred Rewards Program members.

Here's how the additional cash-back breaks down by tier:. BoA announced that it would be creating more tiers of the Preferred Rewards Program.

Diamond and Diamond Honors tiers will also receive a higher interest rate on Bank of America Advantage Savings accounts and a reduced annual fee for Merrill Guided Investing accounts. Luckily, you have options when it comes to lenders that offer personal loans with quick funding — even if your credit score needs work.

Make sure to prequalify with several lenders before applying to get the best loan terms you can. Catch up on CNBC Select's in-depth coverage of credit cards , banking and money , and follow us on TikTok , Facebook , Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date.

To determine which personal loans are the easiest to get, CNBC Select analyzed dozens of U. personal loans offered by both online and brick-and-mortar banks, including large credit unions, that offer lenient credit requirements and can fund them within one business day. After reviewing the above features, we sorted our recommendations by best for overall financing needs, credit requirements and repayment terms.

Note that the rates and fee structures advertised for personal loans are subject to fluctuate in accordance with the Fed rate. However, once you accept your loan agreement, a fixed-rate APR will guarantee interest rate and monthly payment will remain consistent throughout the entire term of the loan.

Your APR, monthly payment and loan amount depend on your credit history and creditworthiness. To take out a loan, lenders will conduct a hard credit inquiry and request a full application, which could require proof of income, identity verification, proof of address and more.

Collateral valuation process

Collateral valuation process

With investments in private company stock, for example, an appraiser might look at recent transactions involving other companies in the same industry and compute pricing multiples from those comparables.

Appraisers always consider all three approaches, but one or two may be more relevant than the rest. For example, the cost and market approaches might be more relevant when valuing vacant land.

Conversely, the market and income approaches might be more relevant when valuing a rental property with an established rent roll.

There are several definitions — or standards — of value. Namely, both parties — the buyer and seller — are knowledgeable and not compelled to deal. In the latter situation, liquidation value may be more relevant to its creditors. Orderly liquidation assumes that assets are sold over a reasonable time period and sometimes bundled together to maximize the net sales proceeds.

Conversely, forced liquidation assumes that assets are quickly sold, typically in an auction. If a borrower plans to merge with or acquire another company, they often need bank financing.

An appraisal can help demonstrate that the purchase price is reasonable. If a company plans to grow using internal resources, it may need a line of credit to fund its incremental working capital requirements or a long-term loan for new property or equipment. Here are four ways to get you on the path to a strong credit reputation: Make sure your credit report is accurate Take advantage of your one free annual credit report.

For most people, one additional credit inquiry will take less than five points off their FICO Scores. For perspective, the full range for FICO Scores is Inquiries can have a greater impact if you have few accounts or a short credit history. Large numbers of inquiries also mean greater risk.

Statistically, people with six inquiries or more on their credit reports can be up to eight times more likely to declare bankruptcy than people with no inquiries on their reports. Much more important factors for your scores are how timely you pay your bills and your overall debt burden as indicated on your credit report.

Research has indicated that FICO Scores are more predictive when they treat loans that commonly involve rate-shopping, such as mortgage, auto and student loans, in a different way. For these types of loans, FICO Scores ignore inquiries made in the 30 days prior to scoring.

So, if you find a loan within 30 days, the inquiries won't affect your scores while you're rate shopping. In addition, FICO Scores look on your credit report for rate-shopping inquiries older than 30 days. If your FICO Scores find some, your scores will consider inquiries that fall in a typical shopping period as just one inquiry.

For FICO Scores calculated from older versions of the scoring formula, this shopping period is any day span. For FICO Scores calculated from the newest versions of the scoring formula, this shopping period is any day span. Each lender chooses which version of the FICO scoring formula it wants the credit reporting agency to use to calculate your FICO Scores.

If you need a loan, do your rate shopping within a focused period such as 30 days. FICO Scores distinguish between a search for a single loan and a search for many new credit lines, in part by the length of time over which the inquiries occur. When you look for new credit, only apply for and open new credit accounts as needed.

And before you apply, it's good practice to review your credit report and FICO Scores to know where you stand.

Viewing our own information will not affect your FICO Scores. As a general rule, it is OK to apply for credit when needed. There is no one-size-fits-all travel card. With so many great options, deciding which card or cards to get to begin building your credit card portfolio can be hard. Make sure you choose a card that fits your spending habits, travel goals and budget.

Do you live in a large city where groceries and dining typically make up most of your monthly spending? If so, consider cards such as the Citi Premier or Amex Gold that offer rewards across those categories. These reward cards can be a great way for you to earn on your spending and work towards your travel goals.

Last, consider your budget. At the end of the day, it's all about considering which cards will give you the most value each year through earned rewards, perks or a mix of both.

Related: Why there's no such thing as the 'best' credit card. Most travel credit cards require good-to-excellent credit , meaning you'll want a score over A score of over is ideal.

It may be a bit easier to get approved for one of the cards on this list than luxury cards such as The Platinum Card® from American Express or the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

However, you'll still need to have established credit and a good score to have the best chance of getting approved. If you don't currently have a good credit score or lack credit history, you'll want to build credit with a beginner or secured card or by becoming an authorized user on someone else's card.

If your credit score is less than stellar, it's a good idea to take the necessary steps to improve your score before applying for a travel rewards credit card. Related: What credit score do I need for the Chase Sapphire Preferred? According to this rule, Chase is likely to reject your application if you've opened five or more personal cards in the last 24 months across all issuers although most business cards don't count toward your total.

Because of this restriction, conventional wisdom is to start by using up your five slots with Chase before moving on to other issuers. When you're just starting with travel rewards, it can be easy to underestimate the importance of this rule, but Chase offers some of the most valuable travel rewards cards on the market.

If you don't get them first, you might not be able to get them later. Unless you have a good reason for looking elsewhere, you should start with a Chase card first. And there aren't many better choices than the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.

For more on this rule and the rules the banks use for credit card applications, see our guide to credit card application restrictions. With so many travel rewards cards out there, choosing which one to apply for might seem overwhelming. But you can't go wrong with any of the choices on this list, as all the options offer great rewards rates and an introduction to the world of points and miles.

So decide what your travel goals are, then use this guide to pick the right card. Then, make sure you meet the minimum spending threshold on the card. For example, if you have a major change, such as a move, coming up, you may want to apply for one of the cards above now to meet the sign-up bonus requirements.

You'll then have a stash of points and miles that can be incredibly useful as you plan your next trip. For rates and fees of the Amex Gold Card, click here. For rates and fees of the Amex Green Card, click here. See Bilt Mastercard rates and fees here.

These cards are best suited for travelers who prefer to fly with a specific airline or stay at a certain hotel chain. These cards often offer a faster path to elite status tiers within these programs. The added benefits of co-branded cards are designed to appeal to loyal airline or hotel customers.

For example, your airline card may get you priority boarding, upgrades, free checked bags, and in-flight discounts. And your hotel card may offer early check-in or late checkout, annual free night awards, and on-site credits.

You can find solid no annual fee options, like the Discover it® Miles general travel card or Hilton Honors American Express co-branded card.

The most important thing to keep in mind when deciding whether an annual fee is worth it for you is whether you can get enough out of the rewards and benefits to outweigh the cost — without spending more than you otherwise would or can afford.

For new cardholders, a sign-up bonus can offer major first-year value. These bonuses may be worth anything from 10, to , bonus points or miles — which can translate to hundreds of dollars in rewards value.

However, you should compare the terms of the bonus to your own budget before you apply. Accruing high interest on balances can quickly outpace even the best bonus.

You may already be prepared to spend more than usual, which can help you reach the bonus requirement faster. Plus, you can earn rewards on those travel purchases to put toward future trips. Earning rewards with travel cards often works in one of two ways.

Some cards offer a combination of these rewards, but knowing which type of spender you are can be useful. If your monthly budget is largely dedicated to everyday spending, you may get more value from the former. But if you travel frequently and spend a lot of money on flights, hotels, and rental cars, you can quickly rack up more points with travel-based rewards categories.

Many travel rewards credit cards — especially the most premium cards with high annual fees — really shine when it comes to added perks and benefits. These benefits can help you offset the annual fee and save money each time you travel.

Just remember: Choose a card with benefits that help you save on purchases you would still have made otherwise.

One unique aspect of travel credit cards is the protections you can get as a cardholder when you travel. Common protections offered by travel credit cards include trip cancellation and interruption insurance, car rental insurance, trip delay reimbursement, baggage delay insurance, access to emergency assistance services, and more.

As long as you pay for your travel expenses with the card booking flights, hotels, tours, etc. you can qualify for these travel protection benefits.

Like any coverage, though, you should make sure to read the fine print of what your individual card offers. These benefits can vary greatly between different travel cards , so make sure to look for details in your card agreement.

Travel rewards credit cards can make a great addition to your wallet, even if you only travel a few times per year. Be sure to compare different travel card options to find the combination of annual fee, rewards, benefits, and sign-up bonus that works best for your travel plans and spending.

Avoid adding another card — especially one with a potentially high annual fee — to your wallet if you already have high-interest debt. Eliminating those balances will help you save a lot more in interest than any value travel rewards could offer.

Travel credit cards can be most lucrative if you maximize how you earn and redeem rewards. Travel credit cards generally require a good-to-excellent credit score to qualify for approval.

If you are ready to open a travel credit card, time your application wisely. The spending thresholds to earn your welcome bonus can be high, so you may want to plan your application around your next trip.

To begin our search for the best travel credit cards, we evaluated more than 70 credit cards currently available from major issuers.

PITI stands for principal, interest, taxes and insurance, which acts as a rough estimate of how much you can afford to purchase a home. Many lenders will use your PITI estimate to determine if you qualify for a mortgage, as it provides an idea of whether you can afford to pay back the loan.

In fact, the average down payment is much lower. PMI is a special type of insurance that protects your lender in the event that you default on your loan.

You also need to factor in closing costs when you apply for a mortgage. These are processing fees you pay to your lender and third parties in exchange for finalizing your loan. The specific closing costs you'll pay depend on where you live and the type of mortgage you're getting.

Some common closing costs include appraisal fees, attorney fees and escrow fees. Make sure that you have enough money to cover these costs before you apply for a loan. Are your finances less than ideal? There are a few steps that you can take to strengthen your mortgage loan application and improve your chances of getting an approval.

Your credit score significantly affects your ability to get a home loan. Take a few steps to repair your credit to help you qualify for more loan types and unlock lower interest rates. Here are three easy ways to get started on the path to better credit.

Watch your credit utilization. Do you put too much money on your credit cards each month? If so, lenders see you as a riskier candidate. Pay down your debt. Paying down debt proves you know how to manage your finances and you don't borrow more money than you can afford to pay back.

Create a plan to tackle your debt early and watch your score soar. Lower Your DTI Ratio Lower your DTI ratio to free up more money to save for a down payment — it makes you a more appealing candidate for lenders.

There are two main ways that you can lower your DTI ratio:. Increase your income. Ask for a raise at work, pick up a side hustle or work toward getting more overtime on each of your checks. Neither of these methods are easy, but both can significantly improve your chances of success with lenders.

A larger down payment reduces the amount your lender needs to loan you. This makes your loan less risky for the lender because they lose less money if you default. Saving for a larger down payment can help you become a more appealing candidate for a loan and can even convince a lender to cut you some slack in other application areas.

Use these tips to increase your down payment fund:. Pick up a side hustle. In the on-demand "gig" economy, it's never been easier to earn extra cash outside of your job.

Drive for a ridesharing service, deliver food for local businesses or pick up a few spare tasks on a site like TaskRabbit. Sell some of your things. Sites like eBay, Poshmark and ThredUp make it simple to sell old things you no longer use.

Search around your home for things you think you can sell and list them. Explore your down payment options. Start by getting approved to buy a home. Government-backed loans are a special class of financing options that have insurance from the federal government.

This means that the regulating body covers the bill on behalf of your lender if you default on your loan. Government-backed loans are less risky for lenders and have lower standards for applicants. However, government loans each have their own specific criteria you need to meet before you qualify.

FHA loans: FHA loans are insured by the Federal Housing Administration FHA. FHA loans have looser credit score and income requirements and can allow you to get a mortgage with as little as 3.

USDA loans: USDA loans are insured by the United States Department of Agriculture. These loans can allow you to buy a home in a qualified rural or suburban area with no money down.

Rocket Mortgage doesn't currently offer USDA loans. Consider Having A Co-Signer A co-signer is someone who agrees to take financial responsibility for a mortgage should the original applicant fail to make their payments.

You can and should calculate your mortgage payment for your prospective home loan yourself, or at least a rough estimate of it, to avoid any surprises down the line. For your convenience, use our mortgage calculator to get an idea of what you can afford. This part of the process is often called preapproval.

Applying will tell you how much money you can get in a home loan and can help you begin shopping for your perfect property.

Create a plan of action and put it into place today if you think you need more time to improve your finances before you apply. Qualifying for a mortgage involves a lot of pieces coming together. Ready to start the process? Apply online today with Rocket Mortgage for approval.

Certain types of government-backed loans allow you to buy a house with no down payment at all. These include VA loans designed for service members, veterans and eligible surviving spouses and USDA loans for homes in eligible rural areas.

Both of these loan types have specific eligibility criteria, but if you qualify, either can be an excellent solution. Saving up for a down payment can be a major hurdle on your path to homeownership, especially if you're a first-time homebuyer.

A down payment assistance program can help you eliminate it. After you pick a program that looks like a good fit, get in touch with an approved lender for the next steps.

Even it if turns out that DPA is not a viable option after all, your lender may be able to work with you to find a mortgage product that fits your needs.
